Pioneering Jewish Rock Sensation

COVER_STORY__0118%0D%0ARICK RECHT, named one of Time Magazine’s “10 Stars of the New Jewish Music” and one of the most celebrated Jewish artists of our time, is coming to Pasadena.

On Saturday, January 13, at 7:00 p.m. Recht will bring his unique brand of high-energy, interactive Jewish rock music to Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center for an all-ages family concert. This extraordinary, inspirational, and moving experience will feature on-stage participation from local community singers and musicians.  Recht’s concert is presented by Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center.

“We are very excited to bring Rick to our community this year! Our goal is to provide dynamic opportunities for our young families to be exposed to contemporary Jewish music that connects us with the rest of the Jewish world,” shared Ruth Berman Harris, Cantor at Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center.

Recht is the top-touring Jewish artist today, performing more than 125 concerts each year across the country. Recht’s powerful performances have earned him a strong, loyal national fan base. Recht has become an icon for Jewish youth, elevating the medium of Jewish music as a powerful and effective tool for developing Jewish pride and identity. He is doing to Jewish music today what Debbie Friedman did for Jewish music in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Not only is Recht a top Jewish performer, educator, and leader, but he is also the founder and Executive Director of Jewish Rock Radio, the first high-caliber, 24/7, Jewish rock internet radio station found at www.jewishrockradio.com.  He is also Executive Director of Songleader Boot Camp (www.songleaderbootcamp.com), Jewish leadership training programs and conferences for Jewish educators, clergy, and veteran and new songleaders.

In a recent interview, Recht was asked the following

Do you feel that Jewish music can be both entertaining and educational? One of the most exciting aspects of Jewish music is how it’s such a powerful and effective vehicle for educating while entertaining. When I’m singing, I may be wearing my ‘rock-star suit,’ but underneath it all, I know that I’m an educator and this music is my vehicle. I know I have a mission and a responsibility to strengthen Jewish identity and engagement for youth, young adults and their families … and music is the ticket!

What’s your take on music and its ability to unify? Our memories and most profound experiences are often stuck to the music in our lives. The music brings our souls right back to those pivotal moments. Music is the common denominator that everyone gets. As a community, when we hear music, our souls are triggered and we ultimately feel a connection that is only possible when underscored by a melody we are all singing together.

“The stage is my home,” said Recht. “The energy and voices of the audience, whether they’re little kids, teens, or adults, are indescribable. For me, it’s a dream come true to create and share in these amazing experiences.”

Recht’s dynamic family concert appeals to all ages and features energetic audience participation.  During his concert, Recht will perform songs from his most recent album, Halleluyah, as well as selections from his other hit Jewish rock albums. Tickets are $18 Children, $50 Adults, and $100 for VIP Ticket and Reception.
